When you don't have time to fully optimize your meta tags and on-site content, try these steps for a quick fix in the mean time.
- Choose three key terms.
Consider your offering, content, and products and pick out the three terms that represent the most popular products, content that brings in the most qualified traffic, or receives the best search volume in the search engines.
- Identify two relevant pages for each term.
Identify pages on your site that are already relevant to those terms. They should be previously existing pages with at least a few paragraphs of text.
- Optimize the content of those pages.
Make sure to use the actual terms a few times toward the beginning of the page (though only in reasonable ways, within context). Use the terms in headlines, as close to the top of the page as possible.
- Optimize the code of those pages.
Revamp the keywords, description, and - most importantly - page title of your chosen pages. Be sure the term appears in each, as close to the beginning as possible. Use different versions of the term as well (plural, past tense, etc.). Also be sure that image "alt" tags contain the terms.
- Link to those pages from other areas.
Put links in other areas of your website that point to those newly optimized pages and make sure to use the terms in the text of the link itself. If you can get some links from other websites as well, that's a bonus!
By following these quick fixes, you can give your SEO a boost without too much time invested. Just imagine - if you followed these instructions once a week, in a couple of months you'd have your website very well optimized for a long list of terms!
